Sensex rallies 300 pts, tops 81k; Nifty holds 24,850; IT index up 2%
Indian stock markets started on a firm note on Tuesday with the BSE Sensex index trading at 81,062.64 levels, higher by 275 points or 0.34 per cent, and the Nifty50 index at 24,849, up 776 points or 0.31 per cent at 10:00 AM.
Today is the Nifty index’s second weekly derivatives expiry after the swap in expiry day to Tuesday from Thursday, September 2025 onwards.
Among individual stocks, Infosys, Wipro, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Eicher Motors, Tech M, HDFC Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Adani Ports, and Maruti Suzuki were the top Nifty gainers today, edging higher in the range of 0.5 per cent to 3 per cent.
On the downside, Titan, Eternal, Shriram Finance, HUL, Bajaj Auto, and ICICI Bank were the top laggards.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index gained 0.12 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index added 0.21 per cent.
Among sectors, the Nifty IT index advanced 2 per cent led by buying in Infosys shares (up nearly 3 per cent). That apart, the Nifty Media index and the Nifty Pharma index were seen topping the sectoral charts.
On the contrary, the Nifty Auto index slipped 0.14 per cent on profit booking. The index gained over 3 per cent on Monday.
