Sensex, Nifty muted for second day; textile, energy stocks shine
India stock markets were on the backfoot today, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariff rates on various countries. Investors, now, await India-US trade deal announcement in a bid to avoid any steep tariffs on Indian exports to the US.
The BSE Sensex was at 83,444, up 1.3 points, while the Nifty50 was at 25,453.45, down 8 points or 0.03 per cent.
Titan was the top loser on the Sensex index, down over 4 per cent. This was followed by losses in HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, M&M, TCS, Axis Bank, HUL, and Tech M.
On the upside, Kotak Bank shares surged 4 per cent, followed by Eternal, Bharat Electronics, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, NTPC, Ultratech Cement, and Asian Paints.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap indices gave up gains to trade 0.4 per cent lower each.
Among sectors, the Nifty Private Bank, and Nifty Bank indices were the only gainers, courtesy a rally in Kotak Bank shares. Among the broader sectoral indices, the Nifty Commodities, the Nifty CPSE, and the Nifty Manufactruing indices were holding gains
