Sensex falls 200 pts; Nifty below 24,900; Vishal Mega Mart drops 7%

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading lower amid continued tensions in West Asia. A decline in oil prices, which fell up to 1.6 per cent overnight, may aid sentiment during the day.

The BSE Sensex index was at 81,604.18, lower by 192 points or 0.23 per cent, while the Nifty50 was at 24,890.2, down 56 points or 0.22 per cent.

Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, Ultratech Cement, Sun Pharma, Titan Company, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, M&M, and L&T were the top Sensex losers today, while Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, and Power Grid were the top gainers.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index and the Nifty SmallCap index were up 0.31 per cent and 0.21 per cent respectively.

Among sectors, most indices were trading lower. The Nifty Pharma index fell 0.59 per cent, followed by the Nifty Metal index (0.44 per cent). On the upside, the Nifty Realty index added 0.87 per cent.

IPOs Today

Shares of SME company, Jainik Power, will list on the bourses today. Eppeltone Engineers IPO (SME) will open for subscription.

Samay Project IPO (SME) and Patil Automation IPO (SME) will enter Day 2 of their subscription.

Additionally, Oswal Pumps IPO (Mainline) and Aten Papers & Foam IPO (SME) will move into Day 3 of their subscription, while Monolithisch India IPO (SME) will see its allotment.
