Sensex extends gains, up 200 pts, Nifty tops 24,450; Nifty IT rises 2%

The Nifty50 and the Sensex rose as IT, bank, and financial shares supported, amid mixed global cues.

As of 10:30 AM, the Nifty50 was up 65.25 points or 0.27 per cent at 24,495.60, and the Sensex rose 240.02 points or 0.31 per cent to 78,525.09.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.55 per cent and 0.44 per cent down, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT outperformed with over 1 per cent gain. The Nifty Healthcare and the Nifty Auto also outperformed. Meanwhile, the Nifty Metal tumbled the most.
