Sensex down 350 pts; Rupee hits fresh low; Bajaj Housing slumps 9%
The stock markets in India were trading lower on Tuesday as profit booking continued on Dalal Street. The rupee hit an all-time low of 89.97 per US dollar in the intraday trade.
At 11:35 AM, the BSE Sensex index was trading at 85,276.79, down 365.11 points or 0.43 per cent and NSE Nifty50 was at 26,066.5, down 109.25 points or 0.42 per cent.
HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Eternal, Ultratech Cement, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, Tata Motors PV, Titan Company, Power Grid, and Reliance Industries were the top losers on the Sensex today.
However, buying in Asian Paints, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, SBI, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, HUL, and L&T was helping the index stage a recovery.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index erased gains to trade slightly below the flat line, while the Nifty SmallCap index fell 0.26 per cent.
Among sectors, the Nifty Financial Services index slipped 0.75 per cent, and the Nifty Bank 0.4 per cent. On the upside, the Nifty PSU Bank index was the only gainer, up 0.85 per cent.
