Sensex down 340pts; Nifty below 26,100; VIX up 13%; Realty shares decline
Indian stock markets were trading in the red on Friday amid tepid global cues.
At 11 AM, the BSE Sensex was at 85,316, down 316 points or 0.37 per cent, and the NSE Nifty50 was trading lower by 107 points or 0.41 per cent at 26,085 levels.
Tata Steel, Eternal, ICICI Bank, Tech M, Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, BEL, HCL Tech, and Axis Bank were the top losers, falling up to 1.3 per cent.
On the contrary, M&M, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors PV, Titan, Kotak Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Ultratech Cement were the only gainers on the Sensex.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices were trading lower by 0.83 per cent and 0.91 per cent, respectively.
Barring Nifty Auto (up 0.17 per cent), all the other sectoral indices on the NSE were trading lower, with Nifty Metal, PSU Bank, and Realty indices being the top laggards, each down by over 1 per cent.
Meanwhile, the fear index, India VIX, which gauges the volatility in the markets, was up 13.28 per cent.
