Sensex down 250 pts, Nifty below 26k; IT stocks weigh; Nifty Metal hits new high
Indian equity indices extended losses as financial services and information technology shares weighed. Reliance Industries and Bharti Airtel shares dragged the NSE Nifty 50 the most.
As of 10:51 AM, the NSE Nifty 50 was trading 0.12 per cent or 32.70 points down at 26,008.30, and the BSE Sensex was trading 0.17 per cent or 145.42 points lower at 84,899.25.
In the NSE Nifty 50, Tata Steel, Eternal, and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation were leading gains. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consumer Products, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries were the worst performing stock.
The NSE Nifty Metal index hit a new and was the top performing sector. The NSE Nifty Chemicals and the NSE Nifty Oil and Gas were other two top gaining sectors. On the contrary, the NSE Nifty Realty and NSE Nify Financials declined the most.
In the broader markets, the NSE Nifty Midcap 150 and the NSE Nifty Smallcap 150 were trading 0.10 per cent and 0.22 per cent down, respectively as of 10:58 a.m.
In commodities, silver climbed to a new peak, topping the $80 an ounce mark, before falling over 2 per cent.
