Say Goodbye to Long Queues: Fast Track Immigration Now at 13 Indian Airports

3

Long waits at immigration counters in India may soon be history. The government’s Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) has been rolled out at five more airports—Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode, and Amritsar—taking the total to 13.

Announcing the expansion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the programme, launched in 2024, is designed to cut immigration clearance time to as little as 30 seconds, easing travel for both departures and arrivals. It already operates in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Kolkata.

How FTI-TTP Works
Instead of waiting at manned counters, registered passengers can head to self-service e-gates:

  1. Scan passport and boarding pass.

  2. Complete biometric verification.

  3. Walk through once the gate opens.

The process is done in under half a minute. So far, nearly 3 lakh passengers have registered, with over 2.65 lakh already using the facility. The system will also be available at Navi Mumbai and Jewar airports once they open.

Why Travellers Prefer It

  • Time-saving: Skip queues and move straight to security or baggage claim.

  • Hassle-free arrivals: Faster clearance on return trips.

  • Free of charge: No enrolment or usage fee.

Who Can Apply

  • Indian citizens

  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders
Applicants need a passport valid for at least six months. Once approved, registration lasts for five years or until the passport expires.

Application Process

  1. Apply online at ftittp.mha.gov.in with photo, passport scan, address proof, and OCI card (if applicable).

  2. Authorities verify details and notify by email/SMS.

  3. Book a biometric appointment at an FRRO or designated airport.

  4. Provide fingerprints and facial data. Approval may take up to a month.

Applications can be rejected for false information, unclear documents, or missing address details—but applicants can reapply once issues are corrected.
