Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar after being elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party legislature party, becoming the first BJP leader to hold the state’s top post.

Choudhary assumed office after Nitish Kumar resigned following his election to the Rajya Sabha. Prior to this, Choudhary served as deputy chief minister and home minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government.

Alongside him, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary took oath as deputy chief ministers.

His elevation follows his selection as BJP legislative leader in the Bihar Assembly after the NDA’s strong performance, with the BJP emerging as the largest party. After his appointment, Choudhary met Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to stake claim to form the government.

Reacting to his appointment, Choudhary thanked the party leadership, calling it a “sacred opportunity” to serve the people of Bihar.
