The Indian blind women’s cricket team created history on Sunday by winning the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final held in Colombo.
Led by captain Deepika TC, India chased down Nepal’s 114/5 with ease, reaching 117/3 in just 12 overs to lift the maiden title. The victory comes barely three weeks after India’s women’s team defeated South Africa to win the 2025 Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai—marking another landmark moment for Indian women’s cricket.

The team’s achievement sparked a wave of admiration from political leaders and public figures across the country.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah applauded the team’s “remarkable victory,” stating that the triumph symbolised their “resolve and dedication to win honours for the nation.”
Union Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia lauded the team’s courage and skill, calling the win a “historic achievement” and an extraordinary moment for Indian women’s cricket.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari praised the team’s “extraordinary grit, talent, and unwavering spirit,” describing the win as a testament to their resilience.
Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya shared a celebratory video on Instagram, calling the victory a shining example of “courage, confidence, and indomitable spirit.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said determination, not vision, leads to victory. He praised the players as daughters of India who have once again raised the country’s flag on the global stage.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hailed the team for overcoming physical challenges to achieve greatness, calling them an inspiration for millions.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo also congratulated the squad, saying they had made the entire nation proud.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar offered special praise to captain Deepika TC, who hails from a humble farming family. He highlighted her “courage and commitment,” adding that her journey would inspire countless young women.

Opting to bowl first, India held Nepal to 114/5 before producing a confident chase. The batters overpowered the Nepal attack, reaching the target with eight overs to spare.
