Red Fort Blast: Punishment Will Send a Global Message, Says Home Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday vowed that those behind the deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort would face the “strictest punishment,” asserting that the verdict would send a message across the world that no one would dare to attempt such an attack on Indian soil again.

Calling the explosion “a cowardly act,” Shah said the government would ensure every link in the chain—from the perpetrators to their sponsors—was exposed and punished.

The powerful blast occurred around 6:50 pm near the Red Fort when a car slowed at a red light, killing at least 11 people and injuring 21 others. The explosion’s impact was so severe that charred human remains were found scattered around the site.

On Thursday, the Union Cabinet condemned the explosion as a “heinous terror incident” carried out by “anti-national forces” and directed agencies to identify and bring to justice all those involved, including collaborators and sponsors.

Speaking via video conference at an event in Gujarat, Shah reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to deliver justice would be “fulfilled in full measure.”

“The punishment given to the perpetrators of the Delhi terror attack will send a message to the world that no one would even dare to think of such an attack in our country again,” Shah said.

The Home Minister added that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was coordinating with multiple agencies to trace everyone involved in the procurement of materials, logistics, communication, and execution of the attack. The investigation, he said, was being “closely monitored,” with a focus on preparing a watertight charge sheet that meets all legal standards.

“In the last eleven years, the world has recognized India’s fight against terrorism. The country has demonstrated what a strict and sensitive approach truly means,” he said, adding that India’s cooperation with other nations in intelligence sharing, border security, and joint investigations had deepened significantly.

Shah emphasized that such attacks could not be seen in isolation and that India’s response must only strengthen its national resolve against terrorism.
