Red Alert in Parts of Delhi as Rain, Thunderstorms Likely to Continue

Parts of Delhi witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for several areas and an orange alert for others, warning of continued rain and possible disruptions.

The alerts remain valid until 1:30 pm, with the IMD advising commuters and residents to exercise caution during this period.

The rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief from deteriorating air quality in the national capital, which slipped back into the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday morning. According to the CPCB’s Sameer app, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 310.

Areas Under Red Alert
North Delhi, North West Delhi, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, West Delhi, and South West Delhi have been placed under a red alert. The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong winds of 40–60 kmph, urging people to remain vigilant.

Areas Under Orange Alert
South East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, Shahdara, and East Delhi are under an orange alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms, as per the latest nowcast.

Rain was also reported in parts of the Delhi-NCR region, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. The IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers in these areas during the day.

Airlines Issue Advisory
Major airlines such as Akasa Air, IndiGo, and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories, cautioning passengers to plan their journeys carefully. They warned that flight operations may be affected due to adverse weather conditions across the Delhi-NCR region.
