Ranbir Kapoor Reveals How Two Years of Yoga, Meditation Helped Him Prepare for Lord Rama

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has revealed that preparing to play Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana was less about physical transformation and more about understanding the deity’s philosophy and teachings.

Speaking during a promotional interaction on the sidelines of San Diego Comic-Con, where he appeared alongside co-star Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, Ranbir said embodying Lord Rama required deep spiritual and intellectual preparation.

“I always feel making a body, action or dance is the easy part because that’s superficial. What was really important was understanding the philosophy of Lord Rama at this stage of my life. I wanted to portray someone whom people from the age of eight to 80 could relate to,” he said.

The actor revealed that he studied various versions of the Ramayana, met scholars, practised yoga for two years, and regularly meditated with his guru, Suvir, to better understand the character.

“It was about getting closer to the teachings of Lord Rama and understanding the text, because there are so many interpretations,” he added.

Trailer launch postponed

The Ramayana team had been expected to unveil the film’s first trailer globally during San Diego Comic-Con, but the launch was postponed.

Announcing the delay, producer Namit Malhotra said the trailer would now be released at a later date following the film’s partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment for its global rollout.

He described the project as a landmark for Indian cinema, saying it would present the epic to worldwide audiences on the scale of a major Hollywood production.
