Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has lauded the United States for its continued support in strengthening India’s fight against terrorism. Speaking at a strategic dialogue on Indo-US defence cooperation in New Delhi, Singh emphasized the growing convergence between the two democracies in addressing global and regional security threats, particularly cross-border terrorism.

“We appreciate the United States’ unwavering support to India’s counterterrorism efforts. This collaboration has not only enhanced our defensive capabilities but has also deepened trust and shared values between our nations,” Rajnath Singh said during the session, which was attended by top defence and security officials from both countries.

Strong Bilateral Ties Amid Rising Security Challenges

Singh noted that India and the U.S. are bound by a common interest in ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. The Defence Minister highlighted intelligence-sharing mechanisms, joint military exercises like Yudh Abhyas and Tiger Triumph, and technology transfers as examples of the growing partnership in counterterrorism and national security.

He also reiterated India’s firm stance on zero tolerance towards terrorism and called for stricter global action against countries that provide safe havens to terror outfits—a veiled reference to Pakistan.

U.S. Reaffirms Support to India’s Security Goals

In response, the U.S. delegation led by a senior Pentagon official reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting India’s efforts in combating terrorism. The American side acknowledged India’s role as a critical partner in upholding democratic values and tackling emerging threats such as cyber terrorism, drone attacks, and radicalization.

Both sides also discussed further steps to operationalize the U.S.-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET), which includes cooperation in defence innovation, space, AI, and counterterror systems.

Global Implications of India-U.S. Alignment

Experts view the strengthening of India-U.S. counterterrorism cooperation as a crucial pillar of their broader strategic partnership. With rising instability in Afghanistan, growing influence of terror groups in South Asia, and evolving non-state threats, the coordination between New Delhi and Washington is seen as vital to maintaining regional security.

The Defence Minister’s statement comes amid a series of high-level visits and joint initiatives that reflect a maturing Indo-U.S. defence partnership, moving beyond arms deals to institutional collaboration.

Rajnath Singh’s remarks underline India’s appreciation for international support, particularly from the United States, in confronting terrorism on all fronts. As the world’s largest democracies deepen their security cooperation, their collective stance is likely to have a far-reaching impact on the global counterterrorism architecture.
