Rajnath Singh Explains Why India Didn’t React Immediately to Trump’s Tariffs
On a two-day official visit to Morocco, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India chose not to react to the 50% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Indian imports, citing the country’s “broad-minded” approach. “Those who are broad-minded and big-hearted do not react immediately,” he told members of the Indian community in Morocco.
Singh arrived in Morocco on Sunday and was received by the Head Wali of the Military Command of Casablanca and Indian Ambassador Sanjay Rana. Members of the Indian community, including the President of the Indian Association, also joined to welcome him.
During his visit, Singh inaugurated Tata Advanced Systems’ new manufacturing facility for the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8×8 in Berrechid — the first-ever Indian defence manufacturing plant in Africa. He described the facility as a milestone that reflects the growing global footprint of India’s defence industry.
Speaking about Operation Sindoor, Singh emphasized that India targeted terrorists based on their actions rather than religion. “We didn’t kill anyone for their religion; we killed them for their deeds,” he said, adding that no civilians or military establishments were attacked during the operation. “Only India can have this character,” he said.
Singh also commented on Pakistan-administered Kashmir, saying it would soon be part of India and that its people are increasingly expressing the desire to join. “Five years ago, I addressed the Indian Army in the Kashmir Valley and said we would not need to attack and capture PoK — it is anyway ours. That day will come,” he stated.
