Rajinikanth’s Coolie Becomes Third ₹500-Crore Indian Film of 2025
Rajinikanth’s Coolie has joined the ₹500-crore club, achieving the milestone just 14 days after its release. Despite a slowdown after its second weekend, the film’s strong opening week propelled it past the mark, making it the third Indian film of 2025 to do so, following the Hindi hits Chhaava and Saiyaara.
In India, Coolie has earned ₹268.75 crore net (₹309 crore gross) over two weeks, inching closer to the ₹300-crore mark domestically. Its day 14 collection was ₹4.50 crore, indicating slower momentum, but overseas openings helped maintain its global haul. Internationally, the film has earned just under $21 million (₹182 crore), pushing the worldwide gross to ₹501 crore.
Coolie has surpassed the lifetime box office of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (₹488 crore) and now sits just outside the top 25 highest-grossing Indian films. It has, however, entered the top 10 highest-grossing South Indian films, with its sights set on the lifetime collections of Saiyaara (₹568 crore), Padmaavat (₹585 crore), and Sanju (₹588 crore).
The Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed action thriller features Rajinikanth as a retired coolie and union leader drawn into gang conflicts after a friend’s death. The cast also includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, along with special appearances by Upendra and Aamir Khan.
