Rahul Gandhi Calls PM Modi ‘All Show, No Substance,’ Admits Past Mistake on OBC Representation
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him “all show and no substance” while claiming that the media has overinflated the Prime Minister’s importance.
Speaking at the Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan in New Delhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha dismissed Modi as a political distraction.
“You know what the biggest problem in politics is? No, Narendra Modi is not a big problem,” Gandhi said in response to a remark from the audience. “I’ve met him two or three times. Earlier, I hadn’t, so I didn’t know. But now that I have, I can say with certainty — there’s nothing there. He’s all optics, no depth. You’ve given him too much importance.”
Turning introspective, Gandhi acknowledged what he called a personal mistake during his political career — not doing enough to support and understand the concerns of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community.
“I’ve been in politics for 21 years now. Looking back, I see clearly — I made a mistake. I didn’t protect the OBCs as I should have,” he admitted. Gandhi said his lack of action was due to a limited understanding of the community’s history and issues at the time.
“If I had even a basic understanding back then, I would have ensured a caste census was conducted. That was my failure, not the Congress party’s. It’s my responsibility, and I will correct it,” he said.
Reaffirming the Congress’s commitment to social justice, Gandhi announced that a caste census — which he described as an “X-ray of the population” — would be implemented in all Congress-ruled states.
“We will conduct a caste census across every state where the Congress is in power. This is essential to ensure representation and justice for every section of society,” he declared.
