Rahul Gandhi Accuses EC, BJP of ‘Vote Theft’ in New Video, Cites Multiple States and Bihar Roll Revision

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has released a fresh video on X accusing the Election Commission (EC) and the BJP of “colluding to steal votes,” calling it “treason” and “a betrayal of the Constitution and democracy.”

Expanding on allegations he made in a live presentation a day earlier, Gandhi cited elections in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh — in addition to Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka — as examples. He claimed thousands of fake votes were registered without real addresses or in bulk, and that some voters appeared multiple times on rolls. As an illustration, he pointed to the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha segment.

The Leader of Opposition also targeted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar, where polls are due in October–November, calling it “institutional theft” designed to help the BJP by “recasting the electoral rolls.” He warned, “There will come a time when we will catch you.”

Gandhi said his suspicions grew after seeing a disconnect between public mood and election results, citing what he described as “terrifying anti-incumbency” against the BJP in Madhya Pradesh during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, yet Congress winning only 65 of 234 seats in 2023.

The Bihar SIR process — opposed by the Congress, RJD, and other INDIA bloc allies — is under judicial scrutiny for requiring citizenship proof and other documents that, opposition parties argue, many poor and marginalised citizens may lack. Gandhi warned it could disenfranchise Muslims, Dalits, and backward communities.

The EC has asked Gandhi to submit his evidence under oath. “My word is an oath,” he retorted, urging the commission to check its own data. The BJP has dismissed his claims as frustration over electoral defeats.
