Pune Woman Raped by Man Posing as Courier; Police Launch Massive Hunt for Accused
A 22-year-old woman in Pune was allegedly raped on Wednesday evening by an unidentified man who posed as a courier delivery agent to gain entry into her home. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm in a housing society in the city’s Kondhwa area while the woman was alone.
According to police, the man knocked on her door carrying a bank envelope and claimed he was delivering a courier. When she turned to retrieve a pen, he forced his way inside, locked the door, and assaulted her.
“He entered under the pretext of delivering a courier. As the woman turned to get a pen, he shut the door and committed the crime,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde.
The accused allegedly clicked a selfie with the victim on her phone and left a warning message threatening to share her photos on social media if she reported the incident. Police suspect he may have used a chemical substance to render her unconscious.
“The woman does not remember anything after a certain point and regained consciousness around 8:30 pm. She then informed her relatives, and police were alerted,” Shinde added.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — including Section 64 (rape), 77 (criminal intimidation), and 351(2) (trespassing with intent to commit an offence) — at the Kondhwa Police Station.
Ten police teams, including five from the crime branch, have been deployed to track down the accused. CCTV footage from the area has captured the suspect’s face, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend him.
“Forensic teams were called in to determine whether any sedative or chemical spray was used during the attack. The selfie left on the victim’s phone is also being analyzed,” a senior official said.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities treating the case as a top priority.
