Prabhas Declared ‘India’s Biggest Superstar’ in Spirit Teaser, Sparks Fan Debate
On Thursday, on the occasion of Prabhas’ birthday, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga treated fans with a special ‘sound story’ from their upcoming film Spirit. While the teaser itself generated huge excitement, what grabbed attention was how Prabhas was introduced. Breaking from the usual “Rebel Star” moniker, the teaser dubbed him “India’s Biggest Superstar.”
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The announcement delighted Prabhas’ fans but sparked debate among fans of other leading actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Shah Rukh Khan fans reacted strongly to the title card. One wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “India’s Biggest Superstar? Nice try but there’s only one Badshah who rules hearts from Mumbai to Morocco — #SRK. Legacy isn’t declared in posters, it’s earned over decades of magic, charm, and global love.” Another added succinctly, “No disrespect to Prabhas, but ‘India’s biggest superstar’? SRK literally exists.”
A meme referencing Shah Rukh’s son Aryan Khan’s web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood* was also shared, jokingly calling Prabhas a “Ghante ka biggest superstar.” Fans highlighted SRK’s recent successes with Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki, two of which grossed over ₹1,000 crore each, making him the only actor with two solo ₹1,000 crore hits.
Prabhas Fans Defend the Tag
Meanwhile, many fans of Prabhas supported the declaration. “I think Sandeep Reddy Vanga got it right. Prabhas is indeed India’s Biggest Superstar! Wishing him many more birthdays ahead for him to be the wind under the wings of directors to bring their extraordinary visions to life,” one fan wrote. Another argued, “Box office collections are proof that Vanga is right here.”
Prabhas’ Pan-India Appeal
Prabhas gained nationwide fame through SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise, which collectively grossed over ₹2,400 crore worldwide. Though some of his subsequent films (Saaho, Radhe Shyam, Adipurush) underperformed, he has recently enjoyed a resurgence with Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD, the latter crossing ₹1,000 crore globally.
The star’s renewed box office dominance has fueled discussions about his pan-India appeal, with some social media users joking that Bollywood stars might feel “insecure” about his popularity.
Upcoming Projects
Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, also features Vivek Oberoi and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles. Before that, Prabhas will appear in the fantasy-horror The RajaSaab, directed by Maruthi, starring Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, and Nidhhi Agerwal. It is set to release on 9 January 2026.
