Post Offices Nationwide to Enable Digital Payments by August 2025: Rollout Underway

4

Starting August 2025, post offices across India will begin accepting digital payments at their counters as part of a major IT infrastructure upgrade, official sources confirmed.

Currently, post offices are unable to process digital transactions because their systems are not integrated with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). However, the Department of Posts (DoP) is now implementing new applications under its IT 2.0 initiative, designed to support Dynamic QR Code-based transactions at all post office counters.

“The rollout of these UPI-enabled applications will be completed across all post offices by August 2025,” an official source told PTI.

Pilot Already Underway in Karnataka

A pilot of the upgraded system has been launched in the Karnataka circle, with successful QR code-based booking of mail products reported at Mysore Head Office, Bagalkot Head Office, and several subordinate branches.

Static QR Attempt Discontinued

Previously, the DoP had introduced static QR codes at some counters to encourage digital transactions. However, persistent technical glitches and frequent customer complaints led to the discontinuation of that approach.

With the new dynamic QR solution, the Department aims to overcome those challenges and bring post office services in line with India’s fast-evolving digital payments ecosystem.
