PM Modi Welcomes Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan as ‘Viable Pathway’ to Sustainable Peace
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled plan to end the conflict in Gaza, calling it a “viable pathway” toward lasting peace and development for both Israelis and Palestinians.
“We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region,” Modi posted on X.
He expressed hope that “all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”
Trump announced the plan at the White House on Monday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with Israel formally backing the proposal. Several other countries — including Canada, Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt — have also welcomed the initiative.
What Trump’s Gaza Plan Proposes
According to details reported by The New York Times, the plan calls for:
-
An immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
-
Release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
-
Gaza’s redevelopment for the benefit of its residents.
-
Governance under a temporary technocratic Palestinian committee, free from Hamas involvement, to oversee public services and municipal administration.
-
Transformation of Gaza into a “de-radicalized, terror-free zone” that poses no threat to its neighbors.
Hamas and its factions would be excluded from any role — direct or indirect — in Gaza’s governance under the plan.
