PM Modi to Visit Bihar’s Purnea, Launch ₹36,000-Crore Projects Ahead of Polls
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar’s Purnea district on Monday to address a rally and inaugurate development projects worth ₹36,000 crore, in a tour seen as a major push ahead of assembly elections later this year.
A key highlight will be the inauguration of a new airport terminal, fulfilling the region’s long-standing demand for air connectivity. Modi will also launch the National Makhana Board, announced in the Union Budget 2025, which aims to boost production, technology development, processing, exports, and branding of makhana, benefiting farmers in Bihar and beyond.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will participate in Griha Pravesh ceremonies for over 40,000 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and release ₹500 crore to women’s self-help groups under the DAY-NRLM scheme.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place, with vehicular movement on national and state highways in Purnea suspended for 24 hours starting midnight Sunday.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary said the state has received projects worth about ₹1.5 lakh crore during Modi’s tenure. “Tomorrow, there will be another bonanza. The state is enjoying the fruits of having a double-engine government,” he said, according to PTI.
The visit comes weeks before the Election Commission is expected to announce the Bihar assembly poll schedule. Modi last visited the state on August 22, when he unveiled projects worth ₹13,000 crore, and in July, when he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹7,200 crore in Motihari.
