PM Modi to Inaugurate ₹11,000-Crore Highway Projects in Delhi’s Rohini Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday inaugurate two major highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in Rohini, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across Delhi and the National Capital Region.

The projects — the 76-km Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway with a 5.1-km tunnel to Indira Gandhi International Airport — form part of a broader decongestion plan for the capital. The ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 pm, where Modi will also inspect the projects.

“These initiatives reflect the Prime Minister’s vision of creating world-class infrastructure that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility,” the PMO said in a statement.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

• Length: 75.71 km (54.21 km in Delhi, 21.5 km in Haryana)

• Cost: ₹6,445 crore

• Design: Delhi’s third Ring Road

• Four of five packages ready for inauguration today

The project will provide faster access from Gurugram, west and south Delhi to NH-44, Chandigarh, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, bypassing Dhaula Kuan and city ring roads. Built partly using 10 lakh metric tons of inert material recovered from Delhi landfills, UER-II also marks a sustainability milestone.

It will link to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Akshardham and, in future, connect with five major NCR expressways, including Delhi-Meerut and Yamuna Expressway.

Dwarka Expressway

• Total: 29 km (Delhi stretch: 10.1 km, Haryana stretch: 29 km)

• Delhi section includes a 5.1-km tunnel to IGI Airport

• Haryana portion inaugurated in March 2024

Once fully operational, the expressway is expected to cut travel times to IGI Airport and ease congestion on Delhi’s Ring Road, NH-48, NH-44 and the Barapullah elevated corridor.

“These two roads will significantly reduce congestion in and around Delhi and NCR,” a senior NHAI official said.
