PM Modi Receives Traditional Rajasthani Welcome During Japan Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a vibrant traditional welcome upon his arrival in Japan on Friday. A group of Japanese women, dressed in colorful Rajasthani attire, welcomed the Indian leader with folded hands and the words “Padharo Mhare Des” (“Welcome to my land”).
The delegation also performed the soulful folk song ‘Vaari Jaavu Re’, drawing applause from PM Modi. Classical dances including Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, and Odissi were performed, with the artists adapting their solo styles into group performances to honour the Prime Minister.
“It was such a great chance to perform for PM Modi. I performed Mohiniyattam, a classical dance from South India, and for him, we made it a group performance,” said one of the Japanese dancers. Another performer, presenting Kathak, described performing for the Indian Prime Minister as “like winning a gold medal.”
PM Modi, visibly moved, interacted warmly with the performers, praising their dedication and love for Indian culture. He also lauded the Indian community in Japan, commending their efforts to preserve cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society.
The welcome preceded Modi’s participation in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit in Tokyo, where he aims to advance India’s Special Strategic and Global Partnership and strengthen regional and global peace and security.
“Deeply touched by the warmth and affection of the Indian community here in Tokyo. Their commitment to preserving our cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society is truly commendable,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
