Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Assam on Sunday as part of the second leg of his Northeast tour, during which he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹18,530 crore. Security has been stepped up across the state, with traffic restrictions near key venues.

On Saturday, Modi held a roadshow in Guwahati, where thousands gathered to welcome him. His Assam visit comes amid a three-day, five-state tour covering Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar, during which he is unveiling infrastructure projects worth over ₹71,000 crore.

At 11 am in Darrang, Modi will lay the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College & Hospital, a GNM School, a B.Sc Nursing College, the Guwahati Ring Road Project, and the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra. Later, at 1:45 pm, he will visit Numaligarh in Golaghat, where a 2.6-km “PM Neem Corridor” lined with saplings has been prepared.

There, he will inaugurate the Assam Bioethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a ₹5,000-crore bamboo-based ethanol project aimed at promoting clean energy, and lay the foundation stone of a Polypropylene Plant to boost the petrochemical sector and generate jobs.

The Prime Minister’s tour began in Manipur on Saturday, his first visit to the state since ethnic clashes broke out in May 2023. Stressing that peace was essential for development, Modi urged people to shun violence, calling it “an injustice towards our forefathers and our future generations.” He also unveiled projects worth ₹8,500 crore in the state.
