PM Modi Flags Off India-Made EVs for Global Export, Marks Milestone for Maruti Suzuki
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that electric vehicles (EVs) manufactured in India will be exported to over 100 countries, with “Made in India” proudly displayed on them. He made the remarks while flagging off the eVitara from Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.
“Now, the EVs that will run in dozens of countries around the world will have written on them — Made in India,” PM Modi said, praising Suzuki’s Japanese investment in India and the vehicles being exported abroad.
Highlighting India’s growing global manufacturing footprint, he added that Suzuki’s EV production in India reflects both the strong Indo-Japan ties and global confidence in India.
Critical Minerals Mission
PM Modi also spoke about the global shortage of rare earth minerals and outlined India’s Critical Minerals Mission, covering over 1,200 locations across the country to secure resources vital for EV production.
Make in India, Make for the World
Coinciding with the Ganesh Utsav celebrations, PM Modi announced the launch of hybrid battery electrolyte manufacturing, calling it a major leap in India’s “Make in India, Make for the World” journey.
Maruti Suzuki Enters ‘Teenage’ Phase
Recalling the plant’s allocation in 2012, PM Modi described 13 years as the “teenage” phase — a period of growth, spreading wings, and letting dreams take flight. “Gujarat’s Maruti is entering its teens, meaning it will move ahead with new zeal and enthusiasm,” he said.
Maruti Suzuki India has now begun production of its first electric vehicle, with plans to invest ₹70,000 crore over the next 5–6 years to expand production capacity.
