Narendra Modi on Monday held bilateral talks with Mark Carney at Hyderabad House in the national capital, focusing on strengthening cooperation and deepening the partnership between the two countries.

The two leaders reviewed progress across key areas of the India-Canada Strategic Partnership during their discussions.

Carney arrived in India on February 27 at the invitation of Modi. This is his first official visit to the country. He began his trip in Mumbai and is scheduled to depart later today following engagements in New Delhi.

Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on the Canadian Prime Minister and appreciated his commitment to building a forward-looking partnership.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was “delighted” to meet Carney in New Delhi and welcomed his intent to chart a stronger bilateral relationship.

Carney reached the national capital on Sunday evening after concluding meetings in Mumbai. He was received at the airport by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada.

Delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House were aimed at reviewing cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people ties. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments.

The meeting builds on their earlier interactions in Kananaskis in June 2025 on the sidelines of the G7 summit and in Johannesburg in November 2025 during the G20 summit.

In addition to formal discussions, Modi and Carney are set to attend the India-Canada CEOs Forum.

The visit comes at a crucial phase in efforts to normalise bilateral ties, with talks focused on advancing strategic and economic cooperation between the two nations.
