‘Pirates Are Here Again’: Israeli Military Intercepts Gaza Aid Flotilla
The Israeli military has once again intercepted boats bound for Gaza as part of the ongoing aid flotilla movement. According to the Global Sumud Flotilla, vessels from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, including Thousand Madleens to Gaza and Conscience, were boarded by Israeli forces.
“At roughly 120 nautical miles from Gaza, Israel has attacked our flotilla. At least two boats have been boarded, and most livestreams have been disconnected. The military is attempting to divert our route,” the organisation posted on X.
This action comes days after Israel deported around 170 activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, following their detention aboard flotilla vessels. Activists claimed they were mistreated during detention, with reports alleging that Thunberg was “paraded like a trophy wrapped in an Israeli flag,” forcibly made to kiss the flag, and allegedly dragged by her hair.
The Global Sumud Flotilla and Freedom Flotilla Coalition aim to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver essential humanitarian aid to civilians in the war-torn territory.
Gaza Conflict Enters Third Year
As of October 7, 2025, the Gaza conflict has officially entered its third year. While peace talks between Israel and Hamas resumed in Cairo, Egypt, global protests continue. Demonstrations erupted in Turkey, Mexico, New York, Brazil, and other countries, with thousands demanding an end to the war and Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
The interception highlights the ongoing tension and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as international efforts to deliver aid face repeated obstacles.
