Parliament proceedings on Thursday began amid chaos, with opposition parties launching vociferous protests in both Houses over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The uproar led to the adjournment of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha till 2 PM.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Tiruchi Siva submitted a Suspension of Business Notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, urging an urgent discussion on the controversial voter list revision. However, the Upper House declined to take up the notice, prompting further opposition outrage.

Outside Parliament, leaders of the INDIA bloc—including Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav—held a protest for the eighth consecutive day, demanding the rollback of the Election Commission’s SIR exercise in Bihar. The leaders raised slogans and accused the government of attempting to manipulate voter rolls.

The issue has become a major flashpoint between the opposition and the ruling alliance, with opposition MPs alleging irregularities and political motives behind the voter roll update in the poll-bound state.
