Over 100 Flights Cancelled at Delhi Airport Amid Thick Fog
More than 100 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday as dense fog reduced visibility across north India, severely disrupting air traffic.
Officials said at least 66 arriving flights and 63 departures were cancelled at the airport due to poor weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said visibility at IGI Airport remained low during the morning hours. At 11 a.m. IST, general visibility at the airport was recorded at 500 metres. The weather agency added that shallow to moderate fog was likely during the night and early morning hours.
In its daily bulletin, the IMD forecast a partly cloudy sky for Delhi, with shallow fog at many places and moderate fog at a few locations until the forenoon.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a weather advisory warning that reduced visibility across parts of northern India could affect flight operations at several airports, leading to delays and disruptions.
“Reduced visibility due to fog across parts of Northern India may impact flight operations at select airports,” AAI said in a post on X, urging passengers to stay in regular contact with airlines for real-time updates and allow extra time for travel and airport formalities. It added that dedicated passenger facilitation teams had been deployed at airports to assist travellers.
Low-visibility procedures were implemented at major airports, including IGI Airport in Delhi, amid persistent fog, news agency ANI reported.
Domestic carrier IndiGo also issued a travel advisory, warning of possible disruptions to flights to and from Ranchi, Jammu and Hindon due to low visibility. The airline said it was closely monitoring weather conditions and advised passengers to remain updated.
Flight operations at Jaisalmer Airport were also affected by dense fog, with airlines instructed to strictly follow passenger facilitation norms to ensure safety and passenger convenience, ANI reported.
