One Killed, Another Injured as Terrorists Attack Non-Local Labourers in J&K’s Kulgam

Suspected terrorists opened fire on two non-local labourers at a brick kiln in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening, killing one worker and injuring another, officials said.

The attack took place at a brick kiln in the Kelam area, where the assailants targeted the labourers before fleeing the scene. Both workers sustained gunshot injuries. One of them succumbed to his injuries before reaching a hospital, while the other was admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for treatment, according to officials.

Security forces have since cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

The incident comes less than 10 days after Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the IR 3rd Battalion was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag while deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty. The attack on the police officer marked the first terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir since the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack in which 26 civilians were killed.

Condemning the latest violence, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he was deeply saddened by the killing of the police officer and paid tribute to his sacrifice in the line of duty.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also denounced the attack, saying he had reviewed the security situation with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Sinha said the sacrifice of the slain officer would not be forgotten and assured that those responsible for the attacks would be brought to justice.
