Noida Dowry Case: Accused Shot While Trying to Flee Police Custody
In the ongoing investigation into the Noida dowry death case, police shot the accused, Vipin Bhati, in the leg after he allegedly attempted to escape custody on Sunday.
According to officials, Bhati—detained for the alleged murder of his wife, Nikki—tried to snatch a service pistol from police personnel while being taken for evidence recovery. “The deceased’s husband has been arrested, and teams are working to nab the other accused. The victim’s family has been assured of a fair investigation,” said Greater Noida Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar.
Woman Burnt Alive Over Dowry Demand
Nikki, 28, was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws in Sirsa village, Greater Noida, following a demand for ₹35 lakh in dowry. In her statement, Nikki’s sister Kanchan—also married into the same family—told police that both women were routinely harassed for dowry.
On August 21, Nikki was doused with an inflammable substance and set on fire by Vipin, his mother Daya, father Satyaveer, and brother Rohit, according to the FIR. She was rushed to Fortis Hospital and later referred to Safdarjung, but died en route.
Police have arrested Vipin, while his mother, father, and brother remain absconding.
