Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the world has witnessed a “new India” that neither fears terrorism nor bows before it, as he invoked Operation Sindoor during an event in Kurukshetra.

Speaking at a programme marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Modi said India aspires for peace but will never compromise on national security. “We speak to the world about universal brotherhood, and we also protect our borders. We seek peace, but we do not compromise on our security,” he said.

“Operation Sindoor is the biggest example of this. New India neither fears nor stops, and it does not bend before terrorism. Today’s India is moving forward with full strength, with courage and clarity,” the prime minister added.

Modi also referred to his visit to Ayodhya earlier in the day, describing it as a moment that reflected India’s civilisational depth. “This morning, I was in Ayodhya, the city of the Ramayana, and now I am here in Kurukshetra, the city of the Gita. We are all here paying homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th martyrdom day. I bow to all saints and the Sangat present here,” he said.

Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor, launched in early May, was India’s direct military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Beginning in the early hours of May 7, India targeted terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) before a ceasefire on May 10.

The confrontation involved fighter jets, missiles, armed drones and intense artillery exchanges, marking one of the most significant escalations in recent years.
