The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delivered a decisive blow to its rivals in Bihar on Friday, retaining power with a commanding 202-seat haul — well beyond expectations.

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats.

  • Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, won 85 seats.

  • The Opposition’s Mahagathbandhan, which includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, lagged far behind. The RJD secured 25 seats, while Congress managed just 6.

  • The Jan Suraaj Party, despite a heavy campaign push by strategist Prashant Kishor, failed to win any seats.

Here’s a full breakdown of the seat tally in the Bihar assembly:

Party Seats Won
BJP 89
JD(U) 85
RJD 25
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) 19
Congress 6
AIMIM 5
Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) 5
Rashtriya Lok Morcha 4
CPI(ML) (Liberation) 2
Indian Inclusive Party 1
CPI(M) 1
BSP 1
Total 243

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the win as a triumph for “democracy and true social justice,” calling it the end of “Jungle Raj.” Addressing supporters at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, he said the mandate rejected the negative politics of Congress and replaced “tustikaran” (appeasement) with “santushtikaran” (satisfaction).

Modi credited the result to his so-called “MY formula” — Mahila (women) and Youth — saying Bihar voters broke records by voting for development and prosperity. “Some had built a MY formula on appeasement, but today we introduce a new, positive MY,” he declared.

Despite the scale of the defeat, Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition, rejected the outcome as “unfair from the beginning.” In a post on X, he expressed gratitude to Mahagathbandhan supporters but vowed to review the results. “This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy,” he said, pledging further efforts by Congress and the INDIA alliance.
