Mirzapur Box Office Prediction: Munna Bhaiya Buzz Could Fuel ₹25 Crore Opening, Beat Saiyaara, Awarapan 2

After nearly seven years and three seasons, the phenomenon that is Mirzapur is finally making its way to the big screen. The film adaptation of the hit web series is reportedly an origin story that runs parallel to the first season, bringing back several fan-favourite characters while introducing new ones.

With enormous buzz, particularly across India’s tier-2 and tier-3 cities, Mirzapur: The Movie is emerging as a strong contender for one of Bollywood’s biggest openings of 2026.

Mirzapur: The Movie advance bookings

Advance bookings opened a few days ahead of the release and have gained momentum as the film’s release date approaches. By 10 am on Thursday, a day before its theatrical release, the film had sold around 1.4 lakh tickets, generating approximately ₹4 crore in advance gross for its opening day.

Almost the entire advance collection has come from the Hindi version. The film is also releasing in Telugu, but the dubbed version had sold just 372 tickets across 15 screens, according to Sacnilk. On BookMyShow, Mirzapur: The Movie was selling more than 2,500 tickets an hour as of Thursday morning.

While the numbers are not spectacular, they are encouraging for a film without conventional star power and one that is primarily targeting tier-2 and tier-3 audiences. Films driven by non-metro markets often see a much bigger jump through spot bookings than advance sales, which has kept trade expectations high for the film’s opening day.

Mirzapur: The Movie box office prediction

Expectations for a strong opening began building after the first teaser was released earlier this year, but the buzz has intensified in recent weeks.

Last week, trade estimates were largely pegged at ₹18-20 crore for the opening day. However, those projections have since been revised upwards, with Mirzapur: The Movie now expected to open above ₹22 crore. Some trade observers are even predicting a domestic opening of around ₹25 crore net.

If it reaches that mark, the film would deliver the biggest opening ever for a Hindi movie without a traditional lead star.

Mirzapur eyes Saiyaara, Awarapan 2 records

A ₹25-crore-plus opening in Hindi cinema is typically associated with A-list stars and major pan-India names. Very few actors outside the biggest stars have consistently delivered such numbers.

A strong debut for Mirzapur: The Movie would put its ensemble cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, in elite company.

Should the film cross the ₹25-crore mark on day one, it would surpass the recent opening-day collections of sleeper successes such as Saiyaara, which opened at around ₹22 crore, and Awarapan 2, which recorded approximately ₹21.50 crore.

For a franchise built primarily on its characters and cult following rather than conventional Bollywood star power, such an opening would be a remarkable theatrical achievement.
