Meghalaya Murder: Raja Raghuvanshi’s Brother Demands Narco Test on Sonam, Alleges Bigger Conspiracy
The brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore-based businessman who was murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Thursday demanded a narco test on the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
Reacting to the Shillong district sessions court’s decision to send Sonam to two days of police custody, Raja’s brother Sachin Raghuvanshi said she had failed to reveal the motive behind the murder despite eight days of prior remand and expressed suspicion of a wider conspiracy.
“In eight days of remand, she (Sonam) didn’t reveal why she killed him. What will two more days do? That’s why I’m demanding a narco test,” Sachin told ANI.
“My only appeal to the government is that a narco test be conducted… There could be more people involved in this case,” he added.
Timeline of the Case
Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area (Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district.
As police searched for Sonam, she resurfaced on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh — about 1,200 km from the crime scene — and surrendered to police.
Police allege that Sonam, along with her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, plotted to kill Raja just two weeks after their wedding. The plan involved hiring three accomplices — Akash Thakur, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Chauhan — all of whom are friends, with one reportedly being Raj’s cousin.
Custody Update
On Thursday, the Shillong court remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha to two days of police custody, while the other three accused were sent to 14 days of judicial custody. All five were earlier taken for medical examination at the Civil Hospital in Shillong before being produced in court.
