In response to ongoing unrest in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, issued a travel advisory urging Indian citizens in the country to exercise caution and defer travel until the situation stabilises.

“Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets, and exercise all due caution,” the advisory stated. The MEA also asked citizens to follow local safety instructions issued by Nepalese authorities and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.

For assistance, the MEA provided the following helpline numbers for the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu: 977 – 980 860 2881 and 977 – 981 032 6134.

The advisory comes as Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday following a second day of Gen Z-led protests in Kathmandu and other regions. The demonstrations, demanding an end to corruption, nepotism, and misgovernance, turned violent on Monday, September 8, leaving 19 people—mostly young protesters—dead and around 400 injured after police opened fire with rubber bullets and live ammunition.

India expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and called for peaceful resolution of the issues.

Meanwhile, airlines including Air India, IndiGo, and Nepal Airlines cancelled flights from Delhi to Kathmandu on Tuesday due to the unrest.
