Indian equity benchmarks opened in the green for the second straight session on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, buoyed by upbeat global cues following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a trade pact with Japan.

The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 265.06 points to start at 82,451.87, while the NSE Nifty 50 added 78.45 points to open at 25,139.35. In the previous session, the Sensex had closed at 82,186.81, and the Nifty at 25,060.90. Broader market indices mirrored the gains, with the BSE Midcap up 0.16% and the BSE Smallcap gaining 0.18% to trade at 55,284.42.

Leading the Sensex gainers were Reliance (+1%), Tata Motors, Infosys, Maruti, and Bharti Airtel. Among the laggards, Eternal (Zomato’s parent) slipped 0.92%, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and NTPC.

Out of the total traded stocks in early hours, 1,307 were in the green, 975 declined, and 75 remained unchanged.

Gift Nifty Signals Upbeat Start

Gift Nifty, a key pre-market indicator, opened 42.5 points higher at 25,126.50, compared to its previous close of 25,084.00, suggesting strong market momentum.
