Analyst view

“Nifty started last week strong but ended weak on profit booking, though the 25,000 milestone remains within reach. Positive triggers included PM Modi’s Atmanirbharta roadmap, the Trump–Putin meet, and an S&P rating upgrade. Globally, the Dow hit record highs and Fed Chair Powell hinted at a September rate cut. Still, caution is advised as Trump’s 50% tariff deadline looms on August 27. Nifty faces resistance at 25,154 and support at 24,633,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd.

Gift Nifty & FII flows

Gift Nifty indicated a positive opening, rising 120 points to 24,999 against its previous close of 24,879.
On August 22, FIIs sold equities worth ₹1,622 crore, while DIIs offloaded shares worth ₹329 crore.

Asian market cues

Asian markets traded higher, following Wall Street’s rally after Powell’s dovish comments. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 113.71 points (0.27%) to 42,692, Hang Seng surged 527.86 points (2.08%), Kospi added 31.15 points, and Shanghai’s SSE Composite rose 32.83 points (0.86%).

Sectoral performance

Most Nifty sectoral indices advanced in early trade. IT (+1.75%) and realty (+0.74%) led the gains, while metal (+0.36%) and pharma (+0.40%) also inched higher. Media (-0.59%) was the only sector trading lower.
