Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces Resignation from US Congress; Trump Calls Her a ‘Traitor’
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a prominent figure in the MAGA movement who recently broke with former president Donald Trump, has announced she will resign from Congress.
In an online video, the 51-year-old Republican from Georgia — first elected in 2020 — said she had “always been despised in Washington, D.C., and never fit in,” and did not want her family or supporters to endure “a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”
Greene said she will step down on January 5, 2026.
Trump responds
Trump reacted on Truth Social by referring to her as Marjorie “Traitor” Brown, claiming she “went BAD” because he declined to return her “never-ending barrage of phone calls.”
Greene’s departure comes amid a widening rift within the MAGA movement, which is still reeling from strong Democratic gains in this month’s off-year elections — including the victory of New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist.
The movement has also been increasingly divided over Trump’s position on releasing emails related to the case of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
