Malaysia Issues Advisory for Indian Travellers: Entry Denied for Those Failing Visa-Free Requirements
The High Commission of Malaysia in India has warned that following the extension of the 30-day visa-free entry for Indian citizens, several travellers arriving at Malaysian airports have been placed in the “Not To Land” (NTL) category by Malaysian Immigration, preventing them from entering the country.
The advisory highlights common reasons for being placed in the NTL category, including insufficient travel funds, lack of verifiable accommodation, absence of a genuine return ticket, or suspected intent to breach immigration rules, including working under the visa-free scheme.
“In such NTL cases, Indian nationals must remain inside the airport of arrival in Malaysia until the airlines that brought them repatriate them back to their departure airport in India,” the High Commission noted, warning that passengers could be stranded for several hours.
Travellers are urged to strictly follow immigration rules by ensuring sufficient funds, verified accommodation, and valid return tickets. The advisory also cautions against agents who promise employment under the 30-day visa-free entry scheme, emphasizing that the scheme is not intended for work purposes.
The visa-free scheme, applicable for Indian passport holders from 1 December 2023 to 31 December 2026, allows a stay of up to 30 days for tourism, business, social visits, or transit. Travellers must submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online at least three days before arrival and carry passports valid for at least six months.
Additional entry requirements include holding a valid passport, not being on Malaysia’s suspect or prohibited lists, and having adequate financial means to support the stay.
