Maharashtra civic polls: Parties intensify campaign on final Sunday

With Sunday (January 11) marking the final day of campaigning ahead of the election, political parties intensified their outreach across the city, lining up rallies, roadshows and door-to-door campaigns in a last push to reach voters.

Pradeep Deshmukh, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said it was natural for campaigning to peak on the final Sunday. “As this is the last Sunday for campaigning, all candidates are undertaking intensive outreach at both the individual and party levels. Roadshows and rallies have been planned in different areas,” he said.

Madhuri Misal, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, said the party has been running an extensive campaign citywide. “Candidates are campaigning in their respective areas, with full support from the party. Roadshows and door-to-door campaigns will be conducted on Sunday,” she said.

Shrikant Patil, representing the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), said the party’s candidates have concentrated on holding rallies within their constituencies and visiting housing societies to directly engage with voters.

Congress leader Arvind Shinde said senior party leader Balasaheb Thorat is touring different parts of the city and will address public rallies, while Congress candidates are carrying out outreach programmes in their respective constituencies.

With the campaign window closing, parties are aiming to maximise voter contact before electioneering officially ends.
