Low-Pressure Area Forms in Bay of Bengal; IMD Warns of Rainfall in Parts of Tamil Nadu
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned that a new low-pressure area has formed over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining south Andaman Sea on November 22, and is likely to intensify into a depression over the Bay of Bengal by Monday, November 24.
In a special bulletin, the IMD said the system, developing under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, is “very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea around November 24, 2025.” It added that the system may strengthen further over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the following 48 hours.
However, IMD experts remain uncertain whether the system will develop into a cyclonic storm, PTI reported.
