‘Little Did He Know…’: Sunjay Kapur Mourned Air India Crash Victims Hours Before His Own Death

Sunjay Kapur, prominent Indian businessman and former husband of actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 53. According to a report by India Today, Kapur suffered a fatal heart attack while playing polo in the United Kingdom.

What makes his passing even more poignant is that just hours before his death, Sunjay had shared a condolence message on social media mourning the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed over 200 lives.

Sunjay Kapur’s Final Tweet Was a Tribute to Crash Victims

In what has now become his final post on Twitter, Kapur wrote:

“Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. 🙏 #planecrash”

The irony of the timing moved many online. One user commented, “Very, very unfortunate day. Om Shanti to your soul as well.” Another noted, “Little did Sunjay know when he posted this, and just days earlier about life’s uncertainty, that his own time was near. Om Shanti.”

Just three days prior, Kapur had tweeted a reflective message:

“Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots.’”

Who Was Sunjay Kapur?

Sunjay Kapur was the Chairman of Sona Comstar, a global leader in automotive technology and manufacturing. Under his leadership, the company became a key supplier of precision-forged gears and driveline components worldwide. He was also the President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) in India.

Born into a business family, he was the son of the late industrialist Dr. Surinder Kapur, and played a pivotal role in expanding Sona Comstar’s global footprint.

In his personal life, Sunjay was previously married to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, with whom he shared two children. After their divorce, he married Priya Sachdev, a model and entrepreneur. As of now, Priya has not released a public statement regarding his passing.
