Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 11 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, his team confirmed. The veteran star had been admitted after experiencing respiratory complications.
Fondly known as Bollywood’s “He-Man,” Dharmendra leaves behind an illustrious career spanning over six decades. His final on-screen appearance will be in the upcoming film Ikkis, slated for release on December 25.
He is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and six children — Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Ajeeta, and Vijeta.
Born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol in a small village in Ludhiana, Punjab, he began his acting journey with the 1960 film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Over the years, he became one of Indian cinema’s most beloved and enduring icons, starring in classics like Phool Aur Patthar, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Naukar Biwi Ka, Betaab, and Ghayal.
In 2012, Dharmendra was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
Even in his late years, Dharmendra remained active on social media, often posting warm, relatable videos promoting healthy living, organic farming, and simple joys of life. His clips of tending to his farm, driving a tractor, or sharing heartfelt messages earned him love across generations.
A true embodiment of humility and charisma, Dharmendra’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema — one defined by timeless charm, versatility, and unmatched screen presence.
