Kulgam Encounter: One Terrorist Killed, Army JCO Injured; Operation Underway

A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday morning, police said. A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained injuries during the gunfight.

The clash broke out after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Gudar forest area on intelligence inputs about terrorist movement.

“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and, upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist was eliminated and a junior commissioned officer sustained injuries,” the Army’s Chinar Corps said in a statement. The operation is still in progress.

The joint operation involves the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.

The latest gunfight comes weeks after one of the longest anti-terror operations in the Valley, when security forces engaged terrorists for eight days in Kulgam’s dense forests. That operation involved drones, helicopters, and Para commandos, leading to the killing of two terrorists.
