Kulgam Encounter: Anti-Terror Operation Resumes After Two Terrorists Killed
A day after two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, security forces have resumed the anti-terror operation in the region, officials said on Sunday.
The operation, which began on Friday evening in the Akhal area of Kulgam, was launched following specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in a forested zone. After a brief exchange of fire, the operation was suspended overnight, with security personnel tightening the cordon and deploying reinforcements.
The gunfight resumed on Saturday morning, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists, according to officials.
In an update posted on social media, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated:
“Op AKHAL, Kulgam. Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact.”
The statement confirmed that one terrorist was neutralised, while the operation remained ongoing.
The joint operation is being carried out by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
Security forces continue to comb the area, as intermittent firing and search efforts are underway to eliminate any remaining threats and recover arms or evidence from the encounter site.
