Kolkata Gangrape Case: Police Reconstruct Crime Scene at South Calcutta Law College
Kolkata Police on Friday took four accused in the South Calcutta Law College gangrape case for a crime scene reconstruction as part of the ongoing investigation. The exercise began around 4:30 am and continued for nearly four hours, officers said.
Among those taken to the site were main accused Monojit Mishra, alias ‘Mango Dada’—an alumnus of the college—current students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and college security guard Pinaki Banerjee.
Cross-verifying the complaint
According to police, the reconstruction is a crucial step to verify the 24-year-old victim’s complaint and align it with other available evidence.
The woman, a first-year law student, alleged she was gangraped by the four men on June 25 in multiple locations across the campus over a three-hour period, including the guard’s room. Medical reports showed nail-inflicted injuries on Mishra, suggesting she fought back.
CCTV footage reportedly corroborates the victim’s account, showing her being dragged into a room.
Details of the complaint
The woman said Mishra had lured her to the campus under the pretext of offering her a post as general secretary of the women’s students’ department. Once inside a room near the college union office, he allegedly assaulted her after she rejected his romantic and marriage proposal.
The complaint further states that the assault was recorded on video and the accused threatened to leak it on social media.
