Zeeshan Akhtar, a key suspect in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, has been arrested in Canada, Maharashtra minister Yogesh Kadam confirmed, according to a PTI report.

Baba Siddique was fatally shot on October 12, 2024, outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar. The attack was carried out by three assailants, with the main shooter, Shivkumar Gautam, allegedly firing six rounds—three of which struck Siddique in the upper body. He succumbed to his injuries within an hour at Lilavati Hospital.

The two other attackers, Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmail Singh, were arrested shortly after the incident. Their interrogation led to a wider crackdown, resulting in the arrest of 24 additional individuals linked to the case.

According to the police charge sheet, the murder was allegedly orchestrated by Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Investigators claim Anmol planned the killing to assert his dominance in Mumbai’s criminal underworld.

However, Siddique’s son, Zeeshan, has raised doubts about the official narrative, suggesting that powerful figures involved in Bandra’s slum rehabilitation (SRA) projects—including builders and politicians—may have had a role in the conspiracy.
